Statewide schedule — read this before you rely on it
High: R.I.G.L. 44-5-5 lets each city and town set both the due date and the penalty date, so Providence bills on the 24th of July, October, January and April while Warwick uses the 15th. Variation between counties here is high — treat the dates above as a starting point only.
An installment unpaid after the locally fixed delinquency date carries a penalty set by the city or town of up to 18% a year, or 12% in Cranston, under R.I.G.L. 44-5-9.
Cities and towns set their own tax roll and billing calendar; most mail annual bills in June or July for the fiscal year that begins July 1 and offer the quarterly option required by R.I.G.L. 44-5-7.

$
Effective rate 1.21% = this county's median owner-occupied tax bill ($4,588, ACS 2022 5-year estimate) divided by the typical home value at the time ($377,751, Zillow, 2022-12-31). Exemptions the seller holds — homestead, senior, veteran — usually do not transfer with the deed, so a new purchase can run above this figure. The county assessor sets the assessed value; this is an estimate, not a quote.
